Scene: In Tucker’s room
(Tucker is sitting in his room which only takes up a small portion of the stage. It
is the focus of attention because of light placement. The rest of the stage is black and unlit. Jase then enters)
Tucker
Hey, what’s up?
Jase
I’m breaking up with Tessa.
Tucker
Ok, wow. I was thinking more along the lines of “not much Tucker, what’s up with you”. Why are you breaking up with her?
Jase
I don’t like her anymore. She acts like we’re in a marriage. Some kind of sick dysfunctional marriage. I’m sixteen, almost seventeen! I don’t want to be a husband.
Tucker
Makes sense. Moving on to more important things... Has Sophie said anything about me in class? Like when you two talk? You said you were going to help me.
Jase
I read a song she wrote, “Idealistic Dream”. It’s beautiful.
Tucker
If it’s beautiful, then it must be about me.
(Tucker smiles while Jase glares)
Jase
It’s not about you. I brought it home with me if you want to read it.
(Hands the song to Tucker and leaves)
Tucker
(Tucker begins to sing the song that he is reading over – “Idealistic Dream”)
You don’t even know what I see.
Somehow you make all the bad go away.
Maybe if I was a different person, you wouldn’t look at me the same.
Your eyes pierce my soul, my idealistic dream.
You make everything alright.
I feel I am losing myself slowly.
As long as you’re here I know I’m still alive.
(The remainder of the stage lights come up and we see the room divided into three segments – Tucker’s section, Jase’s section, and Sophie’s section.)
Jase
I’ve been ignored for so very long.
If you didn’t have so many guys to choose from, you could see how happy we would be.
Your eyes pierce my soul, my idealistic dream.
You make everything alright.
I feel I am losing myself slowly.
As long as you’re here I know I’m still alive.
Sophie
Such an obsessive personality.
I’m so blind from denying reality.
Trying to find ways to stand out, but I can’t compete anymore.
All
Your eyes pierce my soul, my idealistic dream.
You make everything alright.
I feel I am losing myself slowly.
As long as you’re here I know I’m still alive.
Sophie
Your eyes pierce my soul, my idealistic.
Your eyes pierce my soul, you mean everything to me.
I know I’m still alive you when you are here.
Please be near.
