Scene 6-7 (you know the drill on previous scenes)

Scene: Jase and Tucker talking - a few weeks have passed

(Sophie at this time is hidden to Tucker, but seen by the audience)

Tucker
I really want to ask Sophie to homecoming.

Jase
Then go for it.

Tucker
What if she doesn’t like me anymore? Then I’ll just make a fool out of myself.

Jase
She has asked you to homecoming before. I’m sure she’ll go.

Tucker
You really think so? Good! I wouldn’t want to take anyone else. I don’t know how to ask her.

Jase
Why don’t you go somewhere and think about it for a while, and then ask later today.

Tucker
Ok, I’ll do that. Thanks Jase. I don’t know what I’d do without you.
(Tucker leaves while Sophie approaches Jase)

Sophie
I cannot believe he is actually asking me to homecoming. What am I supposed to do? Say no?

Jase
Just avoid him. He’ll get the idea. Poor kid doesn’t realize his interest in you is a bit too late.

Sophie
I have a question for you though.

Jase
Oh now what would that be?

Sophie
My cousin is getting married. She asked me to sing for the wedding, but I need someone to accompany me on the piano. Would you be at all interested?

Jase
Does it mean I get to spend more time with you?

Sophie
Of course!

Jase
Then it is a definite yes.

Scene: Sophie and Jase at the rehearsal dinner for the wedding

Sophie
Well the rehearsal for the wedding went well.

Jase
Yeah, I guess.

Sophie
Hey what’s wrong? Is my family overwhelming? I know sometimes they can be.

Jase
No it’s fine. It would’ve been nice if you had told me prior to this that the dinner was going to be an hour away from the church.

Sophie
I didn’t know.

Jase
I’m going to add the music I learned for the wedding to my piano music collection. So when I’m a professional piano player someday I’ll have a binder of all the songs I know how to play. So what are we supposed to do now?

Sophie
We’re at a restaurant. We’re supposed to eat.
(Jase and Sophie go get food and sit down at a table)

Jase
Starving yourself again I see.

Sophie
No. Why would you say that?

Jase
I see you throw away half of your lunch at school. When we were rehearsing, I offered you my sandwich, and you wouldn’t eat it.

Sophie
Your sandwich was gross.

Jase
Why is that?

Sophie
I don’t like onions.

Jase
You could’ve taken them off.

Sophie
I don’t like tomatoes. It’s hard to get rid of tomatoes. I’m not a person who eats a lot. That’s just how I am.

Jase
Well you’re eating more tonight, and that’s final.
(Places more food on her plate)

Sophie
Fine, whatever.

Jase
At least it’s really warm outside. The lake is nice. Hey I think I just saw a shooting star!

Sophie
Really? Where did you see it?

Jase
I don’t think I saw one.

Sophie
But you just said…

Jase
I didn’t. It was probably just a glare off of a car window.

Sophie
Ever the pessimist. Are you going to the concert tonight?

Jase
I don’t know. Are we even going to make it back in time?

Sophie
We’re not that far from home.

Jase
I never told my mom there was a concert. She probably won’t let me go. How about you? Are you going to the concert?

Sophie
I don’t know. I’m getting pretty tired.

Jase
Do you hear the song playing in the background. Tucker can play this on his guitar. I can’t.

Sophie
Let’s not talk about Tucker tonight.

Jase
Why?

Sophie
Because I’m here with you.

Jase
I like that.
